Walkin’ in a winter wonderland. . .

Can you believe how quickly the snow came? How fitting for the first major snowfall to fall on December 1st. I’m kind of glad it waited that long to happen, I enjoyed the dry less than frigid weather through Thanskgiving. . .
So I haven’t said much since the middle of October, and I hate to say it, but nothing major has really happened since then. I’m just really busy, like really busy. I have ONE MORE WEEK of work left, then I have a glorious three weeks off – which I really plan to just hit the gym hard, read, and catch up with friends that I’ve slightly neglected all semester long. . . it’s funny I relate to life by the semester again – as if I were back in school myself. Ideally, I hope to pick up a few baby sitting jobs while I’m off for the winter break, and also collect unemployment, keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll qualify considering I’ve only been working for three months so far, which is a good segue into work – I had my three month obligatory review and my probation period has been extended through the next semester. I’m alright with it, because I’m still learning A LOT and still given a lot of things to do, I find myself getting distracted or sidetracked often – in the middle of a task something will come up and I’ll start a whole seperate task. It drives me crazy when I realize it. And my employer points it out to me a lot, but she’s been super patient with me, and very gracious. I have a tendancy to try to want to do things my own way, on my own time instead of always asking for help or asking questions, which hurts in the long run because then I make mistakes and have to go back and re-do things and it’s more time consuming and makes me want to rip my hair out, but I’ll figure it out. I hope by the end of Spring semester I’ll be a pro. Then I’ll be off all summer! woo!!

I was asked to chaperone a group of six teenage girls for Joshua Revolution during my break – I recruited a friend to help me take on this task, and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’ve met with the girls once so far, and tomorrow we have another meeting – I was sick the last one so I didn’t stay long – so this time around I’ll hang out with them for awhile. But it should be a really fun couple of days. I always enjoy Joshua Revolution as a volunteer, it will be a trip as a youth leader!

Thanksgiving was uneventful, my parents left that night for their trip to Florida. I was a little jealous I couldn’t go with them honestly. I love it down there – even if it’s not that hot right now, it still beats the snow!!!

So, snow. . . I never in my life thought I’d be one of those poor people to get stranded during a horrible snow storm, but I did. In my CAR no less, on the 90, while trying to make it home from work. My boss called me around 7pm on Wednesday and said the weather was little iffy and to leave early in case it gets bad (she knew I had to drive to Hamburg, and the southtowns always get a lot of snow). So after the kids came up from the gym I headed out the door, in the city there was NOTHING, not a flake to be found. Mister told me to avoid the skyway because typically that route home is worse than the 190/90, so I head out and by the time I hit the 90 split it was a WHITE OUT and traffic had come to a complete stop. I figured it was an accident and the snow and whatnot, so at 7:45pm my car was a stop, I sent texts to the important people, and called Mister to tell him what was happening. I only had a quarter tank of gas but I figured that would be good enough to get me home, even if its super slow, or if I was stopped for an hour. . . one hour passes, two hours pass, three, four. . . at that point I was almost out of gas, and my phone had died. I called Mister just as it was about to die to tell him if he gets a call from a number he doesn’t recognize it’s probably me because my battery was dying and if I was calling it was because I had finally run out of gas. . .
Half hour later I see this man trapsing down the 90 bundled up to the high heavens with a gas can in his hand. . . MY HERO!!!!! He put gas in my tank, gave me his cell phone, and headed back home and from that point kept calling me every half hour to see what was happening. . . by 12:30AM it’s been five hours in a car, he’s trying to convice me to abandon it, but I can’t bring myself to do it. I was starting to panic and get super anxious, he called the police and asked them what I should do – they told him I should stay in my car (they probably didn’t think 5 hours would turn into 12). So he came back and sat with me from 12:30am until 7:30am, around 5:30am I started to cry, I really didn’t think we were getting out of there, at 7:30am a truck with a plow on the front came zipping through and plowed a path just big enough for one car between all the semi’s so we could get out!! HOORAY!!!! There was so much so around my car he had to plow it out in the front and then get out and push us out of the snow, we drove through all the semi’s racing towards freedom, PTL we were OUT. we got home by 8AM, and went to BED. . .

quite the story I’ll have to share. . .
